When looking at the behind the scenes for Evil Dead 2, I figured it would be easier to start at the preproduction and move my way through to the end. Immediately I am going to supply the reader with an image of what the story board looked like.

This is what the DP and crew had to work with, which is needless to say, a little absurd and a story board with images the unclear probably wouldn't have flown on a non-amateur production. Evil dead 2 also had a lengthy preproduction faze with roughly 3-4 months spent on make up, props, and costumes. The shown make up is for the character of Linda.

However in the behind the scenes, they do note an over site with the off location cabin set. They point out how the warehouse roof is visible in the top of the frame a couple of times and how a sound guy is visible in one of the shots.

This error has given me a simple bit of insight, make sure that outside of the set isn't visible. The special effects guys also point out that one of the costumes got damaged during production but due to the lack of resources they didn't have a spare and just kind of had to go with it. (Also the guy in the suit is the directors brother).

This has taught that having spares is probably a good idea and if not to just be careful with the ones I have. Also that it is possible and easy to convince family members to play humiliating and uncomfortable roles.

However Evil Dead 2 is more than  bunch of amateur mistakes and contains some rather interesting practical tricks that wouldn't be needed in the modern age of VFX. For instance the scene where Ash(the main character) fights his hand is entirely composed of clever edits. When the hand moves, they elevated the floor boards next to the hand and removed the board it creating an invisible trench so crew member can stick they're hand in the hand, which is effectively, a slightly blown out glove.

They also point out that when a decapitated head is sitting in Ash's lap while he is sitting in a chair, Ash isn't actually in a chair. He's kneeling on the floor while the actresses head is poking through the floor, and they just tilted one mimic arm rests and legs to look like he was still sitting.

Something similar is how they did this dismembered body by having the separate limbs be controlled by different extras under the floor poking their limbs through.

For the conclusion for this behind the scenes look, I would like to take a look on how this film got past the ratings board despite the massive amount of blood and gore, a feat that its predecessor couldn't manage going so far as to receive the equivalent of a NC-17 rating. All they did was occasionally switch what color the blood was, it's mostly red, sometimes green and occasionally yellow.
